In Her Own Words: Kendall Ellis - The Beginning Of The End Kendall Ellis Apr 07, 2014

Hey everyone! Kendall here with my weekly blog. Last weekend was the FloridaRelays at the University of Florida. Yet again STA showed out, especially on the girl’s side. My 4x2 relay outdid our previous performance at the Texas Relays by breaking our own national record. Rewriting the record books just one week later. The DMR, 4x2, and 4x4 all broke the meet record and I couldn’t be prouder of my girls.

Sadly, the 2011 cross country season has come and gone and now another season in the past. To say the least, it was an action packed competitive season including too many nail biting races to name. As much anticipation awaits for the season to begin, once it gets started it seems that weeks filled with hours of practicing and competitive races fly by. Looking back, over the entire season it has been quite exciting for the sunshine state and I cannot wait to see what the track and field season has in store.

Wow. What a weekend. I don’t know where to start! I guess when people told me that I would be having one of the best experiences of my life they truly meant it. I am so lucky to have been able to participate in the 2011 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships, not only because I had the privilege of racing 39 of the best high school athletes in the country, but because I made so many friendships that I know will last a lifetime!

The crowd cheered, anticipation was in the air, and the final gun went off to conclude the exciting 2011 cross country season this past Saturday morning. The state meet always can be expected to bring the most excitement of the season while creating a race stage for the best of the best in Florida to compete.

Hey Florida Runners readers, this will probably be the last blog on the site for me. So first off I would like to thank Todd and Jason for giving me the opportunity to write this fall. It has been a great experience, which I am thankful for!

Hello! I hope everyone had a great Regional meet this past weekend! After all the many cross country weekends this season, taking place in all different locations around the state of Florida, I can finally write in my blog this week that the next race is the state meet taking place in Dade City.

Hello all! It has not been too long since my last article, but since then, I have put in a couple more days of great training, and ran my last regional cross country championship of my high school career; which went great. I arrived at the course midday Friday to practice on the course prior to the race Saturday morning, and was very excited for the race after walking and running the course.

Hello everyone! Where has the time gone? I can’t believe this past weekend Districts took place already. It’s crazy how time flies. Before I talk about my District experience this past weekend I wanted to share my thoughts about the sport we all love...cross country.

Hey flrunners readers! Not a whole lot has been going on since my last blog a few weeks ago. I haven’t had too busy of a racing schedule in the past couple weeks so I have been focused on getting in some good workouts going into the championship season. I did run my conference meet this past Wednesday which went quite well.

This past Saturday I finally ran very close to home in the Manatee County Championship which included sven other local high schools. I was very excited to have a race finally in Lakewood Ranch; making it very convenient for family and friends to watch. Coming into the county meet, I had a feeling it might be a little different race compared to the other highly competitive races during this cross country season.

Hey all, it has been another rough but rewarding week. After missing four days of school for a trip up to NY the week before, there was a lot of work to be made up. It never seems that I have an overwhelming amount of school work, but I guess when you pile four days of missed work on top of an already full load, it can get hectic. It was nice to get it all out of the way and then be able to end the week with a race.

As I knew it would be, this past Saturday morning was intense facing the best competition in the state. Stepping off the bus, about an hour before race time there was a crisp chill in the air making it perfect racing weather similar to last year’s chilly conditions. The Pre State Invitational is a great opportunity to run the state course.

Hello again all Florida running fans, it has been a crazy few days, all culminating in my racing at the Manhattan Invite in New York City on Sunday. This was my first trip back to the state of New York since moving more than a year ago; and let me say, it was great to be back. The race itself left quite a bit to be desired, however it great to be back and racing at Van Cortlandt.

Wow! What an exciting past two weekends filled with cross country! Last weekend, I raced in the Flrunners.com Invitational in Titusville. Going into the race I was faced with a bad head cold, but I was determined not to let it bring me down.

Hello again everyone. This past week has been one of the best this season here in Celebration; both training and racing wise. The team traveled up to Gainesville for the Mt. Dew invitational at the University of Florida, and raced better than we have as a team in a long while. Our average time of 20:18 is the fastest that it has been since I began at Celebration, needless to say, it was a good weekend for the team.

What a great cross country weekend! This weekend the Lakewood Ranch team and I ran in the Mountain Dew Invitational at the University of Florida. We all stayed in a hotel the night before since Gainesville is a three hour drive from Lakewood Ranch. That always makes for great fun and bonding time as a team. I was very excited and focused about this race throughout this week. As a team, we were excited about racing on the Gator campus again and then the opportunity to watch the college races, which is really inspiring before the start of our race.

My name is Lauren Gonzalez and I am a senior at John A. Ferguson Senior High School. Having run for four years I can definitely say that this year so far has brought great achievements to our girls' varsity team and myself as an individual. Since my time on Fergusons cross country program we have placed 11th, 15th, and 9th at the state meet. Last year was the first time in Fergusons history that the girl cross country team even breaks the top ten. To see how much my team has grown as a whole from just one year is remarkable

My name is Olivia Ortiz and I am a junior at Lakewood Ranch. First, I want to say thank you to flrunners for letting me contribute to their incredible website! What a great opportunity and honor to be apart of. What an amazing start to the 2011 season with the first two races having intense competition, forcing everyone to get into race mode. Opening race last week was the Déjà vu Invitational in Tampa also know as the “mudfest”.

Hey all Florida running fans, my name is Quincy O’Connor and I am just getting underway in my senior year at Celebration High School, right outside of Orlando. After a great summer of running and some fun, I am now getting my final XC season underway. My summer this year was nothing too crazy, just building mileage. I was lucky enough to be able to go to camp in Flagstaff, AZ, which for all those who like to travel, I would highly recommend. I have never been to a city more perfectly set up for runners than Flagstaff; and I cannot think of a better place to train.
