Track and Field Top 50: 1600 Meter Run Todd Grasley Jan 08, 2014

Florida might be known for its speedsters, but take a look at the numbers on the distance side. Emily Edwards, the 3A Cross Country Finals Champion has the fastest time comine in at 4:53.91 with Daesha Rogers the only other runner to break five minutes. However, look at the remaining 48 athletes! Fifteen seconds separates the top of the third best to number fifty. On the boy's side they are just as close. Timber Creek sophomore Brandon Marquez will no longer have to face Andres Arroyo in this event,  but has the whole field within in 12 seconds of his best. That is 50 guys in the 4:30 or less range!

We continue our Track and Field Top 50 with the mid-distance/distance events. Now a high school freshman, Daesha will look for number three at her new school, Miami Jackson. She comes in with the fastest time of all classes at 2:08.15. On the boys side, the graduation of Andres Arroyo allows for someone else to be the new leader in this event. Arroyo went 1:47 and change one of the greatest performances we've seen. Javon Patterson finished second to the standout at the 4A state championships. He's the only runner coming into 2014 who has gone under 1:52. The next closest runners are more than three seconds behind.
