Meester-Kitterman, Edwards Earn MVP Honors At Ram Invite

It was a big day  for Caanan Meester-Kitterman who won the 1600 meters (4:34.51) and 3200 meters (9:56.86) After the race he was so happy that he broke the ten minute mark he broke down in tears.

"It's been my goal since I was a sophomore," said Meester-Kitterman. 

The 1600 meter run had multiple leaders and the Bayshore junior hung back the first two laps while Lemon Bay's Chris gooding surged and took the lead with 800 meters to go. Meester-Kitterman tagged along and with 600 meters to go turned on the jets for a respectble time of 4:34.51.

The sprints had a great battle between Josh Hicks of Palmetto and Brandon Carnes of Manatee. Both broke the 11 second barrier with Hicks going 10.89 and Carnes 10.98. Carnes also won the 200 in 22.23. His Manatee teammate and also a member of the football team, Derrick Calloway who finished first in the shot put last year, hurled the shot put 55-3, the fifth best mark in the state.

Other notable performances include Northport's Ro'Derick Spears who won both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, 800 meter champion Zack Summerall, and Cody Janski in the quarter mile. Northport beat Sarasota Riverview by 9.5 points 150-141.5 for the team title.

Emily Edwards also earned meet MVP honors after going home with double golds. She won the 1600 in 5:01.53 and 3200 in 11:14.14. It was an exciting night as she passed multiple runners and ran alone, making a statement that she will be one to watch at the state meet. Other top performers include Grace Casagrande in the 800, Michelle Atherly in the hurdles, and Madison Schmidt who cleared 11-06.00 in the pole vault. Sarasota Riverview beat out Fort Myers for the team title.
