Hello, hope everyone is having a good week thus far. It is officially post season for most 1A schools as we just finished our last meet before the championship season. Districts are just around the corner, but until then we will be training hard as ever. Last week at Chiles and this past Tuesday was our city championship meet. It was a good test for our team to see how well we bounced back from the weekend. At the Capital City Classic, there were numerous Pr’s from Maclay athletes. There was too many to count. What is even more impressive is that we have a lot of little ones stepping up to the occasion and doing big things. It is so nice to see how much the little kids love the sport, and I love seeing them compete. What really puts a smile on my face is when they pr and get really excited. I get just as excited for them.
As always one of my favorite events to run is the 4x4. Every time I run it, I come to appreciate the team aspect of it even more and more. Each time, when I am on the starting line with my teammates, I know we are all there for each other and no matter what will not let each other down. Relays to me really define track and field. You get four people who each have an important role to do. You see the determination in their eyes, the fierceness in every stride they take and the trust when they hand of the baton. It really is amazing and it is certainly an honor to be able to part of that at Maclay. This year has been really exciting because our 4x4 is as strongest as it’s been in 10 years. I am really proud of the team and only big things lie ahead.
As I mentioned earlier we had city champs Tuesday. This is always a fun meet to compete against everyone in Tallahassee. The Maclay girl’s team did awesome placing 3rd place. We had some big showings. Many of us seemed to recover pretty well from Saturday because there was pr’s yet again! I competed in all three distance events (1600m, 800m and 3200m). It was quite the experience to say the least. I was able to work on different parts of the races in each event and it worked out nicely, because it gave me a chance to help the team as much as possible.
Now it is time to keep training hard in preparation for districts. As always, time is flying by. But it is important to enjoy every moment, learn from every race, practice with purpose and dream big! See you all on the Track.
