Hello Flrunners. I’d like to start this blog a little different this time. As we all know, this past Monday the Boston Marathon took place. A very tragic event occurred on what seemed to be a good day. It is hard to believe that something like this could happen and cannot imagine how horrible it must have felt to be there. My heart and prayers go out to all the families and competitors and everyone at Boston. Although this ended up being a very tragic day, I’d like to congratulate everyone who did make it there to run. That is a big accomplishment in itself. Running is a sport where people can truly come together. Do not take what anything you do for granted and always stay thankful. Pray for Boston and God Bless.
In Florida, it is officially championship season, and we are headed to Regional’s this Thursday in Jacksonville. Everything is moving fast now and it really hard to take it all in. Last week we hosted Districts and it was very exciting and sad at the same time. It was the last time I would be competing on the Maclay Track. It was very bittersweet, but both the girls and boys team had one goal- to win. We all went out there and did our best and grabbed two team district titles. It was also really exciting to see many of us go on to Regional’s. Bigger and better things are yet to come from the Marauders.
Since districts were Friday it gave us time to recover over the weekend. Sunday we had our senior dinner which was also really fun and this is where my interesting story comes in. (Todd made me include it) So, of course being a crazy distance runner it was pouring rain Sunday, but I still need to get in some type of a long run. The problem wasn’t so much me running in the rain; it was me running in the rain after I had just straightened my hair for our senior dinner that night. I am not very high maintenance considering I run all the time, but when I straighten my hair, it takes a lot of time and effort. It can go from being silk straight to the Jackson five afro look. No matter what I was going to run in the rain. But I was willing to do whatever takes to protect my hair and that meant me running in a shower cap. Just a rain jacket wasn’t going to cut it for me. So I hope everyone enjoys this picture of me in a shower cap just as much as Todd did. Try not to laugh too much.
That is it for now, as it is getting down to crunch time. All the hard work and effort put in this season will start to show these last two meets coming up for everyone. Keep up the hard work everyone!
A little quote for all of you: "Aspire to be great instead of good, aspire to be remembered instead of forgotten, aspire to accomplish what others have and have not done, aspire to be yourself and nothing else for when you strive to be yourself everything is limitless because you are not holding yourself to the limits of others." - Troy Streacker
