It was a gorgeous day for a track meet at Leto High school in the heart of Tampa. The 3A Region 2 track meet took place just a few miles from Raymond James Stadium in the heart of Tampa. This was round two of the state series in every athletes bid to make it to the state championships next weekend.

Kaylin Whitney brought her A game yet again. She cruised to wins in the 100m and 200m. Her 200 meter mark of 23.20 (embedded below) is the fastest time in the nation for 2013, and her 100 meter mark of 11.57 is currently the fifth best in the country. Can you say Dream 100? The highlight of the night (in my opinion) was her split in the 4x400. She took the baton in sixth place and put the fans on their feet as she motored around to finish up third.

The day belonged to the Orlando Evans girls who had another impressive afternoon from everyone, but Taylor Day was stellar as usual. She competed in the high jump, long jump and 4x400 relay. She took second in the jumping events, and led off the 4x400 winning team. Unfortunately, she was a disappointing was fifth in the 400m. That win in the 4x400 was just what Evans needed to hold off Hillsborough (48) and Ocala Belleview (41) to win with 54 points.

Jeremiah Green had your typical “I’m going to score 33 points and will advance to states in four events” kind of a day. He won the triple jump (51-04) and the 200m (21.71 - video below), placed second in the long jump, and fourth in the 100m.

On the boys side, Steinbrenner High earned an astounding 50 points alone off its distance events. They won the 4x800, 1600m, 3200m,  and took third in the 800m.

They won with 59 total points. Jefferson came in second with 55, while Liberty rounded out the top three with 50.
