Whitney Adds Another Honor: USATF Athlete of the Week

A week after winning Gatorade Florida Girl's Track and Field Athlete of the Year, East Ridge sophomore Kaylin Whitney added another honor to resume. Whitney who showed why she is the top high school sprinter in the nation and one of the top U20 sprinters in the country, after setting world leading marks in the 100 and 200 meter dash at the USATF Junior Nationals, was named the USATF Athlete of the Week. Her 11.10 smashed the all-time high school national record while her 22.49 was a US#2 all-time all conditions mark. Not bad for someone who recently received her drivers license! She says the whole experience has been surreal and is honored to receive yet another award.

"Just the response I'm getting from everyone is crazy. The caliber of everything really didn't sink in until I got the responses I did. I found out through Twitter that I was the USATF Athlete of the Week. It means a lot to me especially since high school athletes usually don't receive that accolade very often."

Whitney will be the top seed in both the 100 and 200 meter dash for team USA when they take on the world's best July 22-July 27 in Eugene.
