FHSAA Listens, State Meet in Titusville

TAMPA-- Cease the talk about the Florida High School Activities Association not listening to its constituents. FHSAA Comissioner Bob Hughes announced on Friday that Titusville Astronaut would be the official host of the Florida Finals for Cross Country for the years 1999 and 2000.

Hughes along with Deputy Comissioner Ron Allen, who is the FHSAA's liasion for cross country and track and field, confirmed that Astronaut was named as meet hosts over Disney and Lake City. "We are pleased to bring the cross country state meet to Titusville," said Hughes. Hughes added that Titusville was chosen over Disney because of the feedback that he and Allen received on the Disney course. "We listen to our coaches, and our coaches told us that the course was not as spectator friendly," said Hughes, noting that the course Disney proposed was the Wide World of Sports Course, not the Oak Trail Golf Course. "We chose Titusville because our coaches told us that that is what they would perfer."

Allen agreed with Hughes, saying that he spoke with multiple coaches who had problems with the Disney course set-up. "It basically came down to what course and facility would best suit our athletes, coaches, and spectators," said Allen. "We fully believed Titusville Astronaut to be this place."

The meet will take place on November 20th at the Astronaut course at Brevard Community College's North Campus in Titusville. Class 3A will be up first with the gun for the girls race going off at 8:00 a.m. Class 4A will be up next, will Class A and then Cass 2A following.
