Miami Northwestern junior Thomas Burns has been chasing his older brother Artie's times for most of his high school career. At Bob Hayes he broke his brother's meet record running 36.12. At the GMAC Championship he cracked the 36 second barrier, with a US#1 time of 35.81.
Burns goes from fourth on the all-time list to second jumping his brother Artie in the process. The only person to ever run faster? 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Bershawn '"Batman" Jackson who holds the state record from when he ran 35.39 at the GMAC Championship 17 years ago in 2000. Jackson says he didn't see the race personally, but heard about it.
"That's amazing. I called it years ago when he was up and coming, I watched him grow."
As for his record going down, Jackson says he he hopes it does.

"I'd l be honored to have a kid from the same neighborhood and same track club break my record. I know his mom and Coach Holt, the guy we ran for, and the guy that saved my life are smiling down right now on Thomas."
Next up, for Burns will be this weekend's Florida Relays. He say he will be taking a short break from the hurdles until the postseason rolls around.
"From that point on I'll be trying to hit low 35's. It's an honor to be in this position and hopefully to even pass Batman."
