ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) – Headlined by American record holder Tyson Gay, a star-studded field is expected to compete Saturday on day two of the UCF Relays at the UCF Track and Field Complex. Tianna Madison, Lauryn Williams and Aleen Bailey are also expected at the event.
Gay, an NCAA champion while at Arkansas, claimed the gold medal in the 100- and 200-meter dashes as well as the 4x100-meter relay for the United States at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Japan. His personal bests in the 100- and 200-meter dash establish him as the third-fastest athlete in the history of the events.
Williams finished fourth in the 100-meter dash at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. The American also claimed a silver medal in the 100-meter dash in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.Williams won the gold medal in the 100-meter dash at the 2005 World Championships in Osaka.
Madison competed for Tennessee where she was coached by current UCF head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert. While under Smith Gilbert’s tutelage, Madison was an All-American as a freshman and the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2003 before turning pro in 2004. Madison was the 2005 world champion in the long jump with a mark of 22-7.25/6.89m.
Bailey competed for South Carolina as a collegiate and was the 2003 NCAA champion in both the 100- and 200-meter dash. Bailey won an Olympic gold medal for Jamaica in the 2004 Athens Games as a member of the 4x100-meter relay team.
Competition in the UCF Invitational began this morning and will continue through the men’s 4x400-meter relay at 4:40 p.m.
