Nothing much has really shifted from the preseason till now with the 2A girls -- it's still a Bolles vs. Pine Crest Rivalry.
Right now, Bolles has the upper hand with all of their top 7 sub 19:45, a very strong team with a lot of depth. Pine Crest does put their top two athletes in front of Bolles number one, but how will it all play out at the state meet? It will be an exciting race to watch.
Montverde continues to progress in their season and remain in the top three, with a strong potential to move up.
Lily Henne (18:20), freshman out of Montverde Academy, Emily Faulhaber (18:08), junior out of Pine Crest, Eleanor Tymorek (18:48), sophomore out of Saint Andrews, and Helena Kummings (18:58), junior out of Bolles are just a few athletes that have emerged as some of the top athletes in this classification after our preseason rankings.
Rebecca Clark, the only senior in the top 15 of the classification, has held her own and her top performances week after week have shown she is a contender for the state title.
2A Girls Preseason Scouting Report
Boys
The Bolles boys continue to be the top team in the state across all classifications. As of now, the team leads class 2A with a predicted 27 points. The state record for the lowest team score is 21 points, set by Palmer back in 1986.
Anything can happen come November, but if the Bolles boys want to "bring back the 80s," it is quite possible they could break a state record. Just something to keep in mind as we head into the state series in the next few weeks.
We put Satellite on our watch list during the preseason and with Gabriel Montague and Justin Wilson, this team is a strong force amongst 2A boys. Satellite finished 11th in the Great American Race of Champions with Montague leading the team with a time of 15:29.
Gavin O'Brien and the Astronaut squad has proved us wrong this season. Gavin is one of the top athletes in 2A with a PR of 15:38 and Astronaut comes in at #3 for 2A boys with 5 athletes sub 17:45.
