9 Impact Sophomores In Florida This Outdoor Season

Jessica Edwards - Canterbury School

What she has done: This past weekend, Jessica Edwards competed at the Ida Baker Indoor/Outdoor Challenge. The Canterbury sophomore got a taste of some speed work by running the 200m, taking the win in a 27.08. Edwards is not someone you want on your tail at the end of a 1600m or 800m. With a very quick kick, Edwards also took the win in the 800m (2:17) and 1500m (5:03.23.) The sophomore also ended her cross country season with a new PR of 19:11 at the state meet to finish ninth.

What's to come: As the reigning 1A girls 800m champion and 1600m runner-up we can expect Edwards to come with fire heading into this outdoor season. Based on previous seasons, we can hope to see her jump into a few 400m races to test her middle distance speed. Edwards holds PRs of 2:13.05 in the 800m, 5:07.68 in the 1600m, and 56.66 in the 400m. Coming off a strong cross country season and fast season opener, Edwards will be a tough one to beat in class 1A and beyond this season.
