The Flo Golden South Classic is a few days away and the HS Classic Girls One Mile Run will be an event to watch.
The girls one mile Run will feature some of the state's top distance and middle distance athletes like 1A two-time state champion, Jessica Edwards, 4A two-time state runner-up Mary Ellen Eudaly, 3A 800m state champion, Jinah Mickens-Malik, and many others.
Among the top are Miami Elite Track Club's Jordan Shapiro and South Dade Express' Krystal Rodriguez who will mix up the pack and vie for the title.
Shapiro was third in the 4A FHSAA 1600m and Rodriguez sixth with the only other athlete leading them in seed times being their competitor Mary Ellen Eudaly.
We've seen Shapiro and Rodriguez compete head to head in many 1600m this season with one of the most exciting races being the 4A Region 4 1600m title with the race coming down in an epic kick with Shapiro taking the win in 4:58.47 and Rodriguez in 5:02.05.
Shapiro has had a very consistent 1600m/3200m season winning the 1600m at the GMAC Championship in a time of 5:06.05 and setting a new 3200m PR this season in a time of 11:00.07 at the Pepsi Florida Relays.
On the middle distance side, we've watched Rodriguez crush the 800m down south, setting a new PR of 2:14.17 at the 4A District 16 race and winning the GMAC 800m title earlier in the season.
Both ladies will bring the South Florida heat to the competition this weekend and go for the win after the stellar seasons they have had. Eudaly will be the seed to beat heading into the competition along with Rodriguez, Shapiro, Edwards, Claire Openshaw, and Kambry Smith.
