FHSAA 1A State Meet Girls Recap

FHSAA 1A Girls 100m Hurdles
Leah Martin-Gonzales (St. John Neumann) 14.26

St. John Neuman senior Leah Martin-Gonzales successfully defended her state title in the 1A girls 100 meter hurdles, but not before having to play catch up from behind after a great start and race from The Geneva School eighth grader D'Asia Duncan.

Duncan held the lead over Martin-Gonzales with a swift start over the first six hurdle sets before the reigning champion was able to start to pull even and then ahead across the finish line first.

The race setup for both with one being the chased and the other chasing to drop significant personal best time drops in wind legal conditions (+1.8 meters/second) with Martin-Gonzales (prior 14.50 PR) clocking 14.26 for the win and Duncan (prior 14.71 PR) as the runner-up at 14.37.

The University of Alabama commit Martin-Gonzales finishes off her high school career on a high note, while Duncan who will be a high school freshman next year is just literally getting started.
