Aidan Dixon Is First In Nation To Break 47 Seconds Indoors

Aidan Dixon, a senior at Atlantic High School in Port Orange, Florida became the first high school track athlete in the country this year to break 47 seconds indoors in the 400-meter dash with his US #1 performance of 46.98 to win the Florida Indoor Championships title on Sunday in the finals.

After pressing Montverde Academy's Zyaire Nuriddin to the line only the week prior at the Alachua County Sports Center in Florida/Georgia Challenge on February 4th with  Nuriddin establishing the prior facility record and nation's leading time of 47.06, Dixon was ready to improve upon his 47.21 runner-up performance just seven days later on the same track.

The University of South Florida signee Dixon had broken 47 seconds once before outdoors with his 46.97 personal best coming from the Five Star Conference Championship meet last April. Dixon went on to finish third in the FHSAA 2A State Outdoor Meet in the 400 in 47.27, while in the post-season winning an AAU Club Championships national title in the 400 for his age group at 47.67 and then finishing 4th in the AAU Junior Olympic Games at 47.09 as well for a busy summer running consistently in the 47-second range.

In the finals on Sunday with Nuriddin missing due to competing in the Millrose Games this weekend and winning the high school 300-meter dash on Saturday in New York, Dixon's closest competition with Nuriddin's Montverde Academy teammate Javyian Greene (2nd, 47.68). However, Dixon had no problem cleanly seizing the lead at the break line after a two-turn stagger and powered his way onto the final lap on the 200-meter banked track to win a Florida indoor title with the cherry on top taking over the nation leaderboard as well.
