Liam Jordan runs Record 14:57.63 at North Port Invitational

Girls Individual Race

The girls race featured several of the state's top girls distance runners.  Jr. Alyson Johnson of Creekside (University of Colorado commit)and Sr. Mackenzie De Lisle of Bishop Verot (University of Florida commit),  and Jr. Eliana Black of Cambridge (Christian) School, the course record holder.   Johnson going into today, was the #2 ranked girl in the state.  De Lisle had not run.  Johnson finished 2023 as the #1 ranked girl in the state and De Lisle was the #4 ranked girl.  Johnson and her younger sister, Sydney, represented Creekside, but ran as individuals with Creekside not sending a team to the race.  Everyone anticipated a fast race and Johnson went out and pressed the pace early with De Lisle in tow.  The two separated from the field early and ran with no more than a 10m difference the entire race with Johnson holding on for the win in a state leading 17:31.58.  De Lisle's 17:33.42 moved her into the #3 spot in the rankings.  Black, after leaving Cambridge at the end of her freshman year, had a tumoltuous sophomore year running for IMG and returned to Cambridge this year.  She has been ill the last couple of weeks, but is getting healthy.  She was 5th in 17:46.70.

What stands out about today's race is how many of the top young ladies are underclassmen. In the Top 10, there were only three seniors.  Mackenzie De Lisle, #8 Rachel Harrar of Newsome and #9 Masha Dorofeev of Fort Myers.  In addition to Alyson Johnson, three juniors, went #5-7.  Black and Jazlyn Forbes of Oasis who ran 17:47.73, and Malia Hambrick of North Port who ran 18:07.08.  Three standout freshman all PR's today and gave notice to the upper classmen.  Riverview (Sarasota)'s Madison Muller  was 3rd in 17:38.33. Muller was undefeated gong into the race today with wins at Lemon Bay, Lakewood Ranch and Venice. Her time today has moved her from #11 in the state to #4.    Katherine Eudaly of Plant was 4th in 17:43.02 and Sydney Johnson of Creekside was 10th in 18:21.46. Eudaly had a breakout day.  She is the younger sister of Mary Ellen Eudaly who attended Cambridge and is now at the University of Virginia.  She went from a 19:29.70 #63 ranking in the state to #5.
