Meet Summary & On-Site Coverage at Chiles

The participants at the 10th annual Chiles Track and Field Championships couldn't have asked for better weather. With sunny skies and temps in the 60's, conditions were perfect for record breaking runs and setting personal goals. One meet record broken today was in the boys 3200. The previous course record of 9:56.5 was set back in 2007. Matt Mizereck, a senior from Leon High School, broke the record, running the 3200 in 9:30.06. Matt is also the cross country state champion.  

The girls Distance Medley Relay winners from Florida High were pleased with their win. The team was comprised of one junior and three freshmen, Sarah Jackson, Marissa Sheals, Sydney Earp, and Allie Murray, and they finished with a time of 13:49.99. "We met our goal time." The girls have their eyes set on making state. Good Luck Ladies! 

The field events also had their share of winners. One participant in particular made a big impression. Ray Drew, a Junior at Thomas County Central High School, won 1st place in both the Discus (150' 9") and the Shot Put (50' 7"). Ray is also a member of the football team and the basket ball team. His coach also stated he does very well academically. When asked how he keeps up with everything, Ray stated, "you have to work at it every day. Additionally, Malcolm Brock of Southwest Dekalb, broke the meet record for the high jump with a height of 6'6". The previous record of 6'4" was set by Malcolm in 2009. 

The overall boys team win went to Leon with 124 points. Thomas County Central was right behind in second with 122 points and  in third place was Campbell with 96.5. Chiles took the win for the girls with 169 points. Southwest Dekalb was in second with 139 and in third with 121.5 was Florida High.
