Scott Mackley, a senior from Kathleen High School, finished the mile with a personal record of 4:15 just beating out Micheal Rodriquez who ran 4:15.06. Finishing the heart stopping mile with both Mackley and Rodriquez tripping at the end, Mackley came out on top.
After the race Mackley came out with a banged up knee and a scrap on the hampstring--nothing deadly but he was also not feeling too well. After spending about two minutes with his head in a trashcan he came out and sat down.
Coach Schertzer and Coach Woznicki, both Kathleen\'s distance coaches, decided they should lay him down so he could get some rest for the 3200m. As he layed down his eyes slowing rolled in the back of his head as he took a little nap.
With about 20 minutes until his next race, where he was seeded fourth in the race, Mackley got up. He jogged around starting to get some life back into him. I still wasn\'t sure he was going to be able to run the 3200m, but he did.
Spending most of the race in the back, he decided to give it all he had in his last couple of laps of his high school career. Mackley finished the race in 11th place, but thats not the point. Mackley showed a lot of heart and pride that night making memories for himself and everyone else in the stands.
