GIRLS WINNER: Lindsey Enders - Senior @ Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity pole vaulter Lindsey Enders picked the perfect time to hit a personal best. The senior cleared 12-7 to win the district championship.  Her vaulting coach, Bill Falk of MF Athletics, says it was an improvement in her technique that has helped her achieve those heights.

“Her plant was a lot better than it was previously.  I think that was her greatest improvement. She also made improvements at the top of the vault.  Her strength is that she’s a tremendous athlete with a lot of explosion off the ground. She is fast and has good explosion so that gives the coach a lot to work with.”

Ender’s has improved nearly a foot in each of her three seasons as a pole vaulter. Last year, she won the 1A state championship with a vault of 12-0. Falk says this was one of her best vaults to date, but it is going to take more hard work to get to that elite level.

“Her technique will have to be good enough to use a longer pole and hold the pole higher. You have to be fast enough which she is, you have to be explosive enough which she is, and you have to get your technique so well you can get over your hand grip.”

Part of the senior’s speed comes from the workouts she does to prepare for the 100 meter hurdles and as a member of the 4x100 relay team.  Ender’s added another district championship in the 4x1 and finished second in the hurdles, events Falk believes work hand-in-hand with pole vaulting.

Enders was a member of his vaulting camps in Rhode Island before he finally became her coach two years ago. Falk  says she is a diligent worker who likes to “build on things one step at a time” and believes she will excel when she competes for Cornell University next year. Falk says Enders made a good choice and will have a familiar coaching style at the next level.

“I think she will fit in very well there. It’s a perfect fit for her in the pole vault and she’ll be one of the forerunners in the Heptagonal right away. She’ll be coached by a disciple of mine, Nathan Taylor, who worked at my pole vault camps for many years, so I suspect the system won’t change too much.”

It's a training philosophy that has been working well for Enders so far; she has her eyes set on clearing 13 feet and claiming back-to-back pole vault state titles.
