The Boys in Yellow

There was a buzz around the infield about two miles into the 1A Boys race. Who was that in the lead?

You see most considered this one a forgone conclusion that Holy Trinity senior Daniel Moore would win the 1A Boys race. So much so that Todd was given a really good ribbing by myself and others for calling otherwise in his predictions. But the sport once again proved that it won’t be dictated by predictions and projections and there is a reason why you still have to run the races.

Ryan Gousse, apparently fresh off a confidence-building 4:19 mile time trial this week, was in the lead as the runners passed the two mile mark. He held that position all the way into the finish with a 15:32 personal best. It was a valiant race and took teammate Daniel Salas in tow. The two boys from Trinity Prep impressively finished 1-2 in the race.

The Boys in White

It may not have been the day that Moore was hoping for, but he held his own and maintained for a 15:53 third place finished that more importantly helped his Tigers to an impressive 37-point team assault over runner-up and arch rival Trinity Prep’s 55 points.

Joey Castagnaro (16:13), Tristan Kattenberg (16:16), and Alex Brown (16:27) clocked into the top ten behind Moore, giving the team an impressive 40% of the top ten positions. Cole Oliver’s 17:03 finished off the scoring with freshman Andrew Cacciatore just behind in 17:10.

The performance gave them the second lowest point total of the day, an impressive 16:23 team average, and yet another state title. The trophy case is getting pretty full over there!

PK Yonge Holds on for Third

Earlier in the week PKY number three runner Derek Bolser was hospitalized. He’s okay now, but will not be able to run for another week or two. That left a big hole for a tight-knit team with big dreams and certainly podium hopes.

They all stepped up with solid performances with Westlake breaking a slight slump with a nice fifth place 16:07 performance, followed shortly thereafter by Jordan Brown’s 8th place 16:26. The team perservered and hung on to that third place spot on the podium… the same position they would have had regardless of how well Bolser may have run.

Great job PKY!
