Twenty eight of the nation's top athletes will head to Puerto Rico this weekend as members of Team NSSF competing in the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational. Of the 28 runners, seven are from the state of Florida including two from American Heritage sophomore sprinter Deja Parrish and junior hurdler Khadeeja Dooling. Dooling won the 300m hurdles at the 2A State Finals and helped American Heritage claim the team title easily. Maclay junior Stefanie Kurgatt who has five state titles to her name (four in the 800 and one in the 1600) will head up the distance events.
The boys side has a South Florida flare. Jeffrey Green of Miami Northwestern joins fellow hurdler/sprinters Maurice Dix of St. Thomas Aquinas, and Jabari Hill of Miramar. Jeremiah Green of HIllsborough one of the top triple jumpers in the country rounds out the Florida contingent of guys.
Last year, the Sunshine State had a strong showing for team NSSF with great performances by Arman Hall and Artie Burns
Andres Arroyo of Colonial who swept the distance events at the 4A State Finals will compete for his native country and host Puerto Rico.
