Hi, FLRunners! It is that time of the season when conference championship meets start rolling around with the state series not far behind. Being a senior this year I have a lot of mixed feelings about all that. I am excited about what my team can do down the stretch and I know I must buckle down, train up and go fast, but I also want slow down and savor what will be my last few regular season cross country races as a high school runner with my team. Sure there is the post season with its individual challenges, but that will not be team racing which is my favorite. Go, Greenies!
This past weekend my Green Wave team raced in Sarasota at the Manasota Track Club Invite on Saturday morning. It is a very epic but somewhat slow course to begin with, but because of all the rain there over the last week it had long stretches of mud on the wooded trials. It was even more awesome and difficult. Coach Palmer had us throttle back a bit so we would stay injury free going into the conference, district and regional meets over the next few weeks. We still won the boys varsity team trophy over some pretty darn good 3A competition. I came in third overall in 16:28 with teammates at first, fifth, and all five scorers in the top 25. It was mud-tastic!
Our team is going to the Lely Trojan Invite this Saturday morning in Naples and then our conference meet is the following Wednesday afternoon in Cape Coral. Most of the varsity will have the day off for Lely so we can be ready for the conference meet. The Lely Invite is the first high school cross country meet that I every raced in back when I was in seventh grade at Canterbury School here in Fort Myers. I can’t even remember my time, but I know that it was so chill running with the big boys.
I am still visiting schools and very much undecided about which direction to take, but am grateful for all the opportunities that I have been given. I will update you when I get a little closer to a decision.
