In His Own Words: Ace Brown

Hi FLRunners! Sorry it’s been a while since my last post. A lot has been going on so I will try to break it down quickly. My team went to the Lely Invite on October 20th, but coach held back the top five guys so we would be rested for the conference meet on the following Wednesday. I knew that my good friend Carlos Miranda would be there defending his meet title from last year, but what I didn’t know was Andres Arroyo would show up to challenge him. After I saw them on the line I wanted to be in the race so badly. That would have been awesome.

We had our conference meet on Wednesday, October 24th, in the afternoon, at Mariner High School. Hurricane Sandy had past the east coast of Florida already, but the wind was still pretty strong out of the east. I had an okay race, but not my best and finished third. My team won the championship for the second year in a row. Go Greenies!

That Friday my team went down to Naples for the Celtic invite, but none of the Varsity ran. We cheered on the JV squads, as it was their last race of the year. For some it was their last high school cross country race ever. After the race the guys went out to eat and talked about all the great times we had together as a team. It is awesome to remember the stories, adventures and share with the young guys still coming up.

Halloween morning we went to North Collier Park for the second time this year for our district race. Coach had us tapering the previous week and I felt really good. I had a solid race running 15:48 for seconnd place just behind my teammate Tyler Bennett. My boys won the team title for the second consecutive year. I am so proud to be part of this team. All the guys are really stepping it up. Having a meet in the middle of the week really messed with me though, because it felt like the weekend had started and ended all in one day, weird.

On Friday, I left school early to go on my first official visit and was blown away by the support that college athletes get at a top-level school, I didn’t get home until late on Saturday with my head kind of spinning from all the things that I learned and people I met. I have some more visits scheduled/ in the process of scheduling as I am keeping my options open for now.

My team has regionals on Friday 11/9 and are the defending champions, but this race has four of the top twenty-five 3A teams in the state so nothing is a given. Good luck to all going into the last two weeks of the season, See you in Tallahassee on the 17th!

Oh yeah! The Green Wave girls’ coach, Kelly Britton, just had a baby on Sunday. Congrats Coach Kelly!
