On Tuesday two of the top 2A distance athletes from Florida decided to sign their National Letter of Intent together. At Labelle High School both Christian Vazquez (of neighboring Lehigh Senior High) and Erick Medina of Labelle signed with Webber International University.
Saturday November 3, 2012 Webber International University will be hosting the Sun Conference Championship at Lekarica Golf Course in Lake Whales. The Championship team at the event and the top five Individual finishes not on the advancing team will move on to the NAIA National Championships in Vancouver, WA on November 17th (take note FHSAA). The Embry-Riddle men will be favored seeking their eighth title in a row, while their women will be seeking their seventh.
The team titles on paper were determined well before the gun went off on a great day at Mariner High School. The Lemon Bay girls were predicted to win by 34 points and the Ida Baker Boys were to win by 42. Both teams held true to form.
Thursday in Punta Gorda at Charlotte HS was definitely Ladies Night, and O. What a Night for Ortiz!

As a runner you couldn’t ask for much better weather. Low humidity, not to bright out, and in the upper 70s. The 3A D-12 meet would on virtual meet played out about the way it did in real life with Palmetto Ridge junior Carlos Miranda and Fort Myers senior Rachel Petrik coming out on top.
The Lee County Athletic Conference, held for the first time ever at Dunbar HS went great last night. The weather was hot to say the least which would indicate slow times to come right? Incorrect the times were as blazing as it was hot out. To no one’s surprise the girls race was all Kacy Smith from start to finish.
Rachel Petrik of Ft. Myers ran a course record 19:36 to win over Sabring Whiting of Seffner Christian (19:48). Canaa Meester-Kitterman of Bayshore edges Brendan Shearman of Ft. Myers at line 16:48.31 to 16:49.35.
The meet couldn’t have started out better from a coaching standpoint. The coaches meeting had tons of food and drinks, talking breakfast sandwiches and all. The host, Coach Simpson, is the life of the meet and keeps everything fun for the kids and coaches. Not to mention he offered golf cart rides to the mile markers if you got to a cart fast enough. I was spoiled, Oh wait, nope I ran to every mile marker. Had only I put the same effort into making to a golf cart instead.
