Deep Run sophomore Matthew Novak (pictured by Jeff Adams) may have been the state's only high school competitor at this weekend's Florida Relays, but being the lone wolf from Virginia appeared to work with his breakthrough victory and personal best time of 4:16.06 to win the invitational 1600 meter run on Friday in Gainesville.

The Florida track and field teams take to their home track this weekend to host the 69th Annual Pepsi Florida Relays, at the Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium. The event takes place Thursday-Saturday, April 4-6. Events begin at 5 p.m. ET Thursday as only high school athletes will compete. Action begins Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. ET. The University of Florida has just announced that they will extend the storied Florida Relays track meet to be a three-day long affair next season. Action will start on Thursday April 4th and run through Saturday the 6th.
