Dunbar Coach Romero On Mile Fields Assembled Mar 24, 2021

WATCH LIVE ON MILESPLIT.COM!The Set Goals No Limits Distance Showcase was a smashing success this past Friday at Satellite High School. We have another elite and high-caliber meet for the distance stars of Florida to attend this weekend in the first annual Dunbar Tigers Classic in Fort Myers. A lot of it has to be a credit to the brainchild behind the idea over wings with other coaches for dinner after the FACA Clinic in Dunbar cross country and distance track coach Ray Romero. He has put in a lot of time and energy recruiting these fields reaching out and communicating with coaches throughout the state over the past few months. The meet within the high school-sanctioned meet is hosting elite open/unattached races at the mile and 3200-meter distances. Sean Watkins & Antonio Spencer Interview Mar 26, 2021

WATCH LIVE on MileSplit.com! Heat Sheets - LIVE ResultsSt. Thomas Aquinas has one of the best sprint groups in the state and they will be featured once again on the track this Saturday at the Dunbar Tigers Classic in Ft. Myers. Two key members among that deep group are Antonio Spencer and Sean Watkins, who both joined us for a pre-race interview. Spencer thrives at the 100-meter dash with a Florida #2 10.43 personal best as the BCAA Championships, while Watkins does better at longer sprints with a Florida #3 time of 21.19 as the BCAA winner. When they form together with two other teammates, Spencer and Watkins are part of Florida's fastest 4x100 meter relay with a season-best of 41.17, which ranks them fifth nationally. Their relay is seeking their first sub 41-second performance of the season and may put it together this weekend at Dunbar.Neither senior has signed yet with a college, but with both sprinters enjoying a breakout outdoor season as well as Florida being one of few states with a fairly normal season compared to many others when it comes to Covid restrictions could open doors for them soon. Most of their meets have breezy with wind-aided times, while tomorrow is expected to be wind-legal with calm winds and warmer day, so great opportunity for them to show out fast times without a strong breeze at their back.

Javier Vento Pre-Meet Interview Mar 26, 2021

WATCH LIVE on MileSplit.com! Heat Sheets - LIVE ResultsThese meet fields assembled for Saturday morning at Dunbar High School are special and arguably wide open. The boys' mile field alone has 18 of the top 21 ranked milers in the state currently, but one runner in the field appears to have some special momentum going into the race in Belen Jesuit senior Javier Vento.Last week, Vento ran a pair of personal bests including a 9:06 state-leading 3200-meter time in a small home weekday meet at Belen Jesuit, while finished off the week strong with a devasting finishing kick to win the 800 at IMG Spring Break Invite in a 1:54 PR.The two-time FHSAA 3A state cross country champion in 2018 and 2020, Vento has yet to run a fast 1600 or mile time this season as his 1600 meter best of 4:11 comes from his last outdoor race of 2020 before the coronavirus shut down last March.Vento is certainly one of more than a handful of guys in the field capable of grabbing the win as well as a sub 4:10 performance. The University of Florida commit will be seeking a win, but more importantly wants to run a fast time which he hopes the other top runners in the field, as well as a high school pacer thru the first 800 meters, will all be on the same page to do that.
