Head Of Class Senior Girls Rankings: Steele Triple Threat In 100,200 & LJ Todd Grasley Jan 30, 2016

Pasco's Alfreda Steele is the defending 2A state champion in the 100m dash and long jump and 200m runner up. The triple threat trails only Khalifa St. Fort as the top senior in the state in those events. St. Fort who was the IAAF World Youth runner up in the 100m, will not compete for her high school St. Thomas Aquinas and focus on training for international competition under T&T Olympian Ato Boldon. Northwestern's Twanisha Terry and Southridge's Symone Mason headline a loaded junior class. Both Terry and Mason are two of the top sprinters in the state as well as the nation. In the distance events, Fletcher's Kayley DeLay has run under 5:00 in the 1,600 and sub 11 in the 3,200m. Tiara Mcminn of Miami Jackson is the top returner in the 100mH (14.01) and high jump (5'8"). Head Of Class Junior Boys Rankings: Auburndale's Smart Shines In 100m Dash Todd Grasley Jan 29, 2016

Auburndale's Chauncy Smart is one of the most consistent 100m runners in the state with seven races under 10.8 and a personal best of 10.57 from the 3A Region 2 Championship. Smart was 5th at the 3A state meet and comes in with the fastest 100m dash time of any junior in Florida. In the hurdles, Damion Thomas and Trevon Grimes, are two of the top hurdlers in 4A, the state, and nationally as well! Lincoln Park's Caleb Potorff who is coming off of a runner-up finish at the 2A Cross Country finals is ranked first in the 1,600m and 3,200m. We rank the top 50 class of 2017 athletes in EVERY event. Head Of Class Sophomore Girls Rankings: Collier Counts 3 Individual Titles Already In Young Career Todd Grasley Jan 28, 2016

Bolles sophomore Caitlin Collier has been a member of the Bulldogs track and field team for two seasons and already has three individual titles to her name. Collier, who is coming off a runner-up finish at the 2A Cross Country Finals this fall looks to defend her state titles in the 800 and 1,600 with personal bests of 2:10.11 and 4:59.60. Newsome's Patrick Jolly is the top sophomore in the state in both the high jump and long jump and is ranked 12th in the 400m dash. In the distance events, Vanguard's Joey Fitzpatrick looks to bounce back from an injury plagued fall with the top times in the 1,600 and 3,200, and second fastest in the 800m. Maclay's Clay Milford is one of a handful of runners in the class of 2019 to have the experience in running in a state championship meet.  Milford finished 11th in 3,200 at the 1A state championship last spring and is one of the top distance returners for the freshman class. On the sprint side, Tyrese Cooper is already breaking national records and looks to put his name in the history books before the year is over. St. Thomas Aquinas has a string of three straight state championships in 4A dating back to 2013. In 2012, the Raiders' girls were runner-up. According to our team scores, they are the favorites again to win it all, but not so fast. If you take out the 38 points slated for senior Khalifa St. Fort who is competing unattached this season and training under Olympian Ato Boldon, fellow South Florida teammate and 2015 runner-up Southridge is sitting in prime position to end the Raiders reign at the top.

The ladies of Miami Northwestern are a powerhouse track and field program not just in the state of Florida, but nationally as well. Coach Carmen Jackson's team won their 7th straight state championship in 2015 and have no shortage of talent heading into the 2016 campaign. It won't be a question of if they win, but by how much. 3A Team Scores: Can Chiles Boys Contend With MNW & Make It Three In A Row? Todd Grasley Jan 23, 2016

The Chiles boys (pictured above) won their second straight 3A track and field state championship in 2015, defeating rival Leon by 14 points. In 2014, the Timberwolves ousted Miami Northwestern by three points in a meet that came down to the final event of the night. Fast forward to 2016, and it looks like it could be another battle between Chile and MNW. 


2A Team Scores: Bolles Girls Favorites For Second Title In Three Years Todd Grasley Jan 22, 2016

The Bolles girls are looking for their second 2A state title in three years. The Bulldogs were runner-up in 2015 behind Hallandale and won it all in 2014.  No question the strength of Coach Dearing's squad is the distance events. The cross country state champions will be guided by Tony Ryan and rack up a slew of points while Tiera Cleveland is a triple threat in the 100,200, and 400. Defending champion Hallandale's loss of Kimani Rushing to early enrollment at the University of Florida opens up the door for a handful of teams to compete for the runner-up spot. It's no secret that Chauncey Gardner was a HUGE part of the Cocoa Tigers track and field team. Despite him graduating early and enrolling at the University of Florida, Coach Tyrone Giscombe says they will be just fine with a strong sprint/jumps crew and incoming transfer Jeremy Lawson from Gainesville. West Florida Tech, our second ranked team's success will depend on the health of two-sport standout Valentino Espinoza who didn't compete at the state meet in 2015. Track & Field Team Scores: 1A Boys - TFA Returns Core Nucleus From 2015 Runner-Up Squad Todd Grasley Jan 21, 2016

The First Academy boys finished 6.5 points behind Westminster Academy in 2014 and a mere half point off the top spot again in 2015. Needless to say the Royals are hungry for the team title and will rely on a well balance attack and core nucleus from that runner-up squad. Jahquez Durham (sprints), Allen Wiggins (throws), and Jonathan Griffin-Heard (hurdles/pole vault), along with the relays have the most potential to score big points. Maclay has a very strong distance squad and the classifications top pole vaulter in Darin Meeker and will give them a run at the top spot.

Jessy Page of South Lake is the defending 3A state champion and also comes into 2016 with the top discus throw of any returner. Her 138'7" at the USATF Region 16 Junior Olympic Outdoor Track And Field Champion is nearly a foot better then Stephanie Paul from Community School of Naples. Three of the four state champions from 2015 return for their senior seasons. Eron Carter (2A), Allen Wiggins (1A), and Macon Rodier (4A) come in with the top three marks as well. Summer Schafers was one of the favorites to win the 4A state championship in the girls pole vault before a fluke accident sidelined those plans. The Olympia junior and FSU signee broke her foot prior to the district meet. This year, Schafers is healthy and ready to improve on her 12'0 personal best set at the Bob Hayes Invitational, and win a state title before she heads off to Tallahassee. University of Pennsylvania signee Sean Clarke is the reigning 4A state champion and comes into the 2016 season knocking on the door of 16 feet with a personal best of 15'7". Lyman coach Fred Finke told me earlier this month that Clarke has soared over that recently and looks very strong headed into the spring. The senior is one of only three to go higher than 15 feet in 2015. Check out the top returners in the boys pole vault!

New Dimensions isn't a powerhouse program so when senior Georges Chery emerged on the track and field scene in 2015, it took many by storm. Chery won the Kowboy Invitational with a clearance of 6'8.25" behind only Phillip Lee of Boyd Anderson who jumped 6'9" at the 3A District 15 Championship. P.K. Yonge senior Christian Ellis has something most runners on this list haven't accomplished and that is winning a state championship. Ellis leaped 46'6.25" to win the 1A state meet in 2015. His personal best is the third best returning mark in the state behind only Binjimen Victor of Coconut Creek (46'11") and Tony Bridges of Pine Crest (46'7") Check out the top 50 boys triple jumpers.

Naples senior Tyler Byrd cleared 24 feet at the Inaugural Jim Smith Invitational in mid March last year and was runner-up at the 3A state meet after winning it all as a sophomore. Byrd, a University of Miami commitment for football is also one of the top cornerbacks in the nation. Jeremy Lawson who transferred from Gainesville High School to Cocoa for his senior year also has the potential to jump over 24 feet. Check out the top 50 boys long jump marks heading into 2016.

Winter Springs senior Kimmie Cunningham would like nothing more than to finish her high school career off with a state title. After finishing as the 4A runner-up in 2015, the Bears versatile athlete is one of only two hurdlers returning in the 300m distance to eclipse 42 seconds joining 3A state champion Timetria Mitchell of Miami Northwestern.
