Jimmy Carnes Indoor Classic Meet Preview Ricky Quintana Feb 03, 2009

Gainesville, FL- The 2nd Annual Gainesville Sports Commission Indoor Meet will take place this Saturday, February 7 in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the University of Florida campus.

This year's meet has been named in honor of Jimmy Carnes. Carnes was the founder of the Florida Track Club, Florida Gator's Track and Field Head Coach, past President of the Governing Body of USA Track and Field and 1980 Olympic Track and Field Head Coach. Carnes was named to the United States Track and Field Association Hall of Fame in December and is a long time resident of Gainesville, FL.

The field is looking even stronger than reported last week. Stars from throughout the indoor track & field deprived Southeast are heading to Gainesville, Florida as we speak for tomorrow's big meet. The Innagural Gainesville Indoor Classic will start at 9AM at the O-Dome on Saturday. State champions in various events from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama are on the entry list, along with many others. Olympic hopeful and Palm Bay alum, Xavier Carter, who has been training in Gainesville under Coach Mike Holloway, will be there as well signing autographs. Jamaica olympian Novlene Williams will also be signing autographs for fans.

Flrunners will be on site with a team of four to bring you photos, vidoeos, results, summaries, and interviews!

Lincoln is the defending NCAA 3000 meters steeplechase champion which also included taking third in the 5,000 meters. Looking ahead to the 2002 NCAA Cross Country Championships and the 2003 track seasons, Lincoln looks for more hardware to bring home for Arkansas.

Gill surprised everyone at the NCAA Cross Country Pre-Nationals with her victory in the white race. Her time of 19:54.8 was the fastest time of the day as well. With the cross country nationals just around the corner, Gill looks for another fast time.
