Hey y'all! Kendall Ellis back with a blog for the week. Last weekend I went to the Great Southwest Classic in New Mexico. This weekend I'll be at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in North Carolina. The airport is bound to be my second home this summer.
Here is a recap of last weekend. At such a high altitude, New Mexico has thin air and I definitely felt it. A lot of coughing, sneezing, throat and nose burning. A 400 already hurts, but even more so when there's a lack of air. Regardless of that my teammates and I came to perform. The 4x2 broke the meet record with a time of 1:34.29 and I won the open 400 with a time of 53.4. It was cool getting to meet other athletes from all over the countr,y but always and forever Team Florida. We're from the Sunshine State. We're supposed to shine!
Like I said earlier, this weekend is New Balance Nationals. It's such a blessing to be able to compete against some of the best 400 meter runners in the country and I'm excited about it. I don't usually get excited for meets, but I know that healthy competition makes for a better athlete. Training for this meet has been a little difficult, with a nagging groin issue, but I have faith that things will work out. At the end of the day, I have to keep in mind that my major goal is still the World Junior Championships. That's what matters most to me. Regardless, I'm looking forward to a great weekend, great times, and that outdoor nationals backpack that is oh so coveted.
I wish you all the best of luck in your upcoming meets and training. Stay healthy, stay positive, stay happy and don't forget to go for the gold. Why? Because victory is best served gold.
