Boys Individual Race
On a fast course Liam Jordan of Berkeley Prep ran fast, establishing a new meet record of 14:57.70 and vaulting into the #1 ranking in Florida. Jordans time eclipsed the mark of 15:15.83 set in 2019 by Ethan Geiger of Robinson. Jordan went out strong and led the entire race. 2nd went to Indian Rocks Sr. Blake Young in 15:31.05 and 3rd to Bishop Verot Sr. Andrew Marino in his season opener.
As I looked at this years boy's results, one thing came to mind. To me, they are very reflective of the maturity and experience we see in upper classman distance runners. The first 12 runners of the 14 that ran sub-16 are all seniors. While we see middle schoolers and underclassmen run some very impressive times, in general, it is our seniors that tend to dominate the top rankings and places in each division at the state meet and on the national scene. For the young men, as they mature and gain experience, it is that maturity and experience and the strength that comes with it that identifies high school and collegiate distance running.
