In His Own Words: Cory Sayyeau

Everyone calls it a mud fest and that’s putting it mildly. At the Fleet Feet Invitational at South Fork , I cant even explain the amount of water and mud on the course! Coming into the race, this week has been a solid week of training and the team is still working on closing the gaps. We have an eighth grader Sam Addington who has been putting in so much effort in practice and it is paying off a great deal for us. Heading into the race we looked to bring everyone closer together.

Getting to the course we knew right then and there the race is all about place not time. I’ve been doing this rodeo for a while so I already had an idea of what everyone was going to do and what I needed to do to beat the field. Having the beginning ( .5) of the course in complete mud and water I decided to let everyone have fun and run out fast and do their thing while I sat back in the pack until the mud stopped on the gravel road in the back of the course. I was around 100th place at least within the first half mile of the race. I’ve run this course before so I knew when it would start to get better and as soon as I did that I charged to the front and throughout the race began picking off runners. By the end I was able to catch up and grab tenth place. Looking back maybe I waited a little to long to make my move up to the front. By the end I was feeling if I had another half mile I could have caught more, but I still had a blast running in the mud and water and running a bold race.

The team  from what everyone can clearly see is that first off, we haven’t had our normal top five run a race together so far this season. Before this race our normal number five runner couldn’t run due to a cut on his foot. In other races we haven’t had our number four run due to being out of town. Then the first race of our season we had our number three drop out. Needless to say we haven’t had much luck so far, but there is always something positive to look at. Costa and I are looking foreword to Flrunners meet this weekend and post huge PR's. Costa is bound for it and so am I.  Next Brandon our number four is back from being out of town and I think he is looking for a quick time. Telly our number five will run this weekend and lastly Sam Addington who ran 19:47 at South Fork with the mud at water and that was around 25 seconds off his pr, so Flrunners , fast course, should also set him up for a nice PR. We are losing our number three for a little bit, but no worries because the season is not close to being over.
