In His Own Words: Cory Sayyeau

Cocoa Beach senior Cory Sayyeau breaks down the week that was in a segment we like to call In His Own Words.

The Week Leading Into The Race

This has been one of my favorite meets of the season. Being able to run locally and get the support from so many made me really grateful to have so many wonderful people around my life. The team ran at the Holy Trinity Fall Classic, a great meet put on by Coach Butler and with help from all the parents, it made it a great meet to go to. Coming into the meet the team was running well, but I guess was feeling a little banged up. Most everyone was feeling sore or just flat out tired with the exception on me and a couple of others.Right off the bat I didnt know what to expect to happen this race.

The Race

The races start off really wide then shoots into a bottle neck quick so it's a key factor to kind of get out quick. I wanted to hold off the first mile and not go out so hard like I've been doing. The wind was pretty strong so I figured that would also help with not going out so fast. The first mile was about five seconds slower than I  would have liked, right around 5:20. From there I went negative splits into the second mile and ran strong. With 300 meters  to go I was sitting in 5th place, but I just didn't have much left in the tank and my good friend Andrew "Cacc" Cacciatore got the best of me this week and beat me. Costa was a little tired the past couple weeks and ran a decent time for being so tired. Having next week off from racing that should help. Dylan ran well enough  and our number five runner was able to pr by two seconds so now he is in the 17's again. Our number six runner Sam was able to PR again with an 18:04, and our number four runner brandon just came off being sick so he is getting back into the racing mode. Overall, the team placed third and I think that was really great for us finishing behind two amazing teams in Holy Trinity and Trinity Prep.

What's Next?

CAPE COAST CONFERENCE! We have our conference meet in two weeks and we look to defend our title from last year. This year Costa, Dylan, and I  would love to go 1,2,3 but we have a battle with a Titusville runner who has been having an amazing season. It will be a challenge for the Individual title, but should be a lot of fun and exciting running.

Thankful!

Thank you to all the Holy Trinity Parents and friends on that team. Throughout the race I always heard you guys cheering and then coming up to me before and after the race wishing me the best. It means a lot and I'm glad i fit in with everyone there. Also to my own team's parents for being at every meet cheering everyone on no matter how bad we do some races I'm glad we have the support from everyone.

Shout out to Kayla Greeson! You read my blogs every week and I miss you so much! I really Hope the University of South Carolina is treating you well and you have to get home soon. Love you!
