Oak Hall senior Brittney Olinger has always valued academics as a priority in her life. So when the chance to go to one of the most prestigious universites in the world, Oxford, came about she didn't think twice. The third place finisher as a junior in the 3200 meters at the 1A state meet and third at the 1A Cross Country Finals, she talks about the recruiting process, as well as running and studying at her future home, and much more!

We continue our 2013 All Flrunners.com Cross Country Team with our second team selections. Congratulations to all those that made the list and thank you to everyone on a fantastic season!

The 2013 Cross Country Finals are rapidly approaching. In the days leading up to the event we will preview all four classifications. The 1A girls will be the first race of the morning and it should be a battle both on the individual side between Julie Wollrath and Grace Casagrande, as well as, on the team site with defending champion Oak Hall and Holy Trinity who is looking for their seventh state championship in school history. On the boy's side Troy Clark of MDB will be tested by a pair of Holy Trinity runners in Andrew Cacciatore and Trevor Kattenberg. The duo look to lead the Tigers to back to back boys titles and their seventh in the last ten years.

Santa Fe College was the host of the 1A Region 2 Championships. After all was said and done, Britney Olinger and the Oak Hall took home individual and team honors. Troy Clark, the lone entry from Mount Dora Bible bested the field to finish first in 16:07.00. The Geneva School overcame some disqualifications and still managed to win the team competition.

We are less than two weeks away from the state meet in Tallahassee. Regional competition starts Thursday with class 2A Region 4 and will continue through Saturday morning. Over the course of the next four days we will take a look at the road to state for each class starting with 1A Regions 1-4. County championships, conference championships, as Donald Lamb would say it's playoff time. Districts, regionals, are right around the corner and states is looming, and will be here befoere we know it. This week we will peek into our database and see how our virtual meets have these events playing out. Remember, our virtual meet section is a VALUABLE TOOL in which you can adjust teams, athletes, and even performances. Do you know someone isn't running? Do you think someone will run faster than they are predicted. Fix it, change it, make your own scenarios!

It comes down to this….Four weeks from the state meet on this same course, the top ranked individuals and teams on the boys side and all but one of the top ranked girls, Karen Xiang, and the top ranked teams on the girl’s side gather for their last top level race before they are propelled into the state series. Throw in some talented teams from Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina, some expected temperatures in the low 60’s and we have the makings of a very special set of races.

The question that has been burning up my inbox for the past two weeks now has an answer: "What race are we in?" Now that entries have closed, here are the seedings for the races this weekend.

The Katie Caples Invitational attracts some of the top talent from across the state and individually. The 2013 edition will be no different. Ricky Quintana and Mike Leary will be on-site with a complete recap, race video, interviews, and hundreds of photos from the event.

Over three hundred of pairs of shoes made their way to Andros Islands in the Bahamas this April thanks to Oak Hall senior Brittney Olinger. Olinger started ReRun Sneakers to provide running shoes and supplies to aspiring runners in under privileged areas. As a runner she understands the effort that goes into every stride and the equipment needed to do so.

MileSplit and FloTrack have partnered with New Balance to create the "Local Heroes" program, in order to recognize local high school distance runners who are making a real difference in the world around them. Congratulations to our finalists from Florida for the New Balance Local Heroes Contest. Each finalist will receive a special gear kit from New Balance.From these five finalists, we will announce one overall winner of the New Balance Local Hero contest from each of the five regions at the end of August. The winner will receive an awards party at a local running shoe retailer and their XC team will be outfitted with free New Balance shoes!  

Collect shoes, shoes, and more shoes. That is the goal of Rerun Sneakers, a non for profit started by Oak Hall junior Britney Olinger. Olinger says their mission statement is that being runners and athletes themselves, they understand the effort that goes into every stride.

There were a lot of great performances on Friday evening at Bolles School in Jacksonville, including 37 national elite and 141 state elite performances. However, the brightest of them all was towards the end of the night with up-and-comer Sukhi Khosla. The sophomore from Leon blasted a new personal best with a big personal best of 9:16.73.

P.K. Yonge senior Garrett Westlake and Oak Hall junior Britney Olinger both picked up preseason wins at the 11th Annual All Comers Time Trial, Jamboree, and Fun Run, put on by Buchholz High School.
