A Sunday Chat With Sanya Richards Tyrone Gayle Jul 09, 2007

I was able to catch up with Sanya Richards after her scintillating 49.52 performance in Paris, France Friday night, from her hotel room via cell phone Sunday afternoon. Richards is an alumni of Ft. Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas, class of 2002, and has become arguably the best women’s 400m runner in the world, all by the age of 22. Richards claimed gold as part of the 4x400m relay team in the 2004 Olympics, placed 2nd in the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki, and currently owns the American record in the 400 at 48.70. Richards placed 4th at this year's USA Championships, and 2nd in the 200m. She will compete in the 200m in Osaka, Japan at the World Championships held from August 25th to September 2nd, and as part of the 4x400m relay team.

Track Star Follows in Mom\'s Footsteps Tyrone Gayle Jul 04, 2007

Some of us were born to run fast--literally. When your mother was a track star herself in high school, and was so talented she ran the mile at the state championships, and then led-off the 4x100m relay team, you know you're gonna have some good genes. Meet Brianna Frazier.

Road Vs Trail Running: The Great Debate Tyrone Gayle Jul 01, 2007

Not all of us can be so privileged to live in Tallahassee, or anywhere else in Florida where there are a plethora of trails at one’s fingertips. Most of us may know of one, two, or if we’re really lucky three mediocre to good trails in our area we can run around (for more than a couple miles). This leads the majority of us to rely on the good, old-

fashioned, wavering, yet usually steady comforts of the roads to log our miles on.

This past season, Florida had two 2005 alumni who had breakout years in the 800m after achieving mild success during their high school careers. Both of them made an impact on their team and in the Atlantic Coast Conference with both scoring at championship meet after neither scored at the state meet their senior year. Meet Chris Rowland and Stephen Wilson.

The Run for the Pies 5K: Got Pie? Tyrone Gayle Jun 17, 2007

By Tyrone Gayle

“A tradition unlike any other.” No, it’s not the “Master’s on CBS”, it’s the 27th running of the “Run for the Pies 5K” held every year in Jacksonville, FL on the first or second weekend of June. What makes this 5K so unique is the level of competition put together for the “Invitational” race, the atmosphere, and of course the luscious awards one can win.
