Set your alarm clocks and get ready for the 7th Annual Steinbrenner Invitational. Formerly the USF-Steinbrenner Invitational, the meet has since been pared down from some years over 70 teams to the 32 slated to compete on Saturday morning. The meet schedule kicks off early with some field events starting as early as 8am and can be seen LIVE on MileSplit.
All season in Pinellas County, it's been north county East Lake and south county Lakewood vying for dominance. The virtual meet for the 2016 PCAC meet had the East Lake girls winning by a point. It wasn't quite that close but the prediction that it would be a tight race on both sides, held true.
Inclement weather nearly torpedoed the Vernon Korhn Hillsborough County Track and Field Championships Tuesday. The 4x800m got off and a few field events got scored before a deluge and lightning forced everyone indoors. Meet officials elected to postpone the meet until later in the evening and run timed finals. It proved to be the right call as the weather relented and the rest of the meet ran smoothly.

It looked like a great day for a track meet on arrival at the IMG Academy Invitational. The 4x800m went off without a hitch under overcast, cloudy skies and mild temperature but the first big storm of the new year wiped the slate of events off the docket and the athletes off the field.
The teams with the most versatility swept the 2016 Hernando Kiwanis Invite on Tuesday. On the girls side, it was a group of varsity soccer players that helped guide the Gators to the girls title. The Land O' Lakes Gator girls prevailed 150-127 over the extremely versatile Nature Coast Tech Sharks.
The Calvary Christian Warrior Invitational went down the day after the Thursday night Saint Petersburg City meet and some notable entries opted to rest. It did little to diminish some of the feats that went down Friday night. The Berkeley Prep Bucs had a great all-around showing taking the girls team title by a landslide, 172 to host Calvary's 97. Mitchell girls were third with 85. On the boys side, Countryside broke through with a 126 to Berkeley's 112. Seminole took third with 88.
The Lakewood Spartans continued their early-season streak with a dual-squad sweep of the 5th Annual Saint Petersburg City Track Championships held at Northside High School on Thursday. Naturally, the Spartans scored big points from their sprinters and even got some help in the distance events to out-pace host Northside, runners up on both the boys and girls sides.

wo of the most dominant individual performances of the day went down in the Class 3A races. The very first race of the day was the girls 3A race and Dillard's Brittany Gill set down a very memorable performance.
Prior to Saturday, there was only one girls cross country team with 10 state championships to their credit, the Tampa Plant Panther girls. Now there are two. The Bolles Bulldogs out-paced Pine Crest 45-80 for their 10th overall and fourth straight title.
It was a day of firsts in class 1A as individuals Tucker Hindle of Boca Raton Christian and Hannah Brookover won their first championships. On the team side the Circle Christian girls and Father Lopez made history as well.
The Class 4A races were held toward the end of the day and they proved to be some of the most fantastic individual races of the six. Both Sarasota's Adam Bradtmueller and Riverview's Bailey Hertenstein not only won their individual races, they both ran the fastest times of all three regions for their respective genders.

The 4A District 6 cross country meet pitted Hillsborough County's finest against each other and even brought in the Pasco County champs (Wiregrass Ranch boys) and the Pasco County runners up (Wiregrass girls). It had to be one of the tougher district meets from top-to-bottom in the region. Still, it was the Hillsborough County champions, Plant boys and Wharton girls that held on to win district titles.
The athletes from Class 2A District 10 set off on the same course they ran in just nine days ago at Al Lopez Park in Tampa. Winners from 2014 held serve but just barely. The Berkeley Prep boys won it with 34 to runner up Jefferson with 35.

The Osceola Warriors made two more marks in their school history on Thursday at Eagle Lake Park in Largo. Last week at PCAC, the Osceola girls won their first ever PCAC title. At the 3A-10 meet the girls won their first ever district title and it also marked the first time both boys and girls squads won district titles.
