McConville 5th At Brooks PR ---10:18.44 !!
Running on the National level did not phase Julie McConville whatsoever. Just like the Division 2 State Championships, McConville went directly to the lead showing no fear as she locked horns with some of the premier two milers in the country. McConville would eventually settle into 3rd place for most of the race, clocking an amazing 5:03 for the first mile. She would eventually be caught by two runners on the last lap, but still ran an amazing 10:18.44 for 5th place. Although unofficial because of the oversized track, her time is the second fastest time in Massachusetts History. Lynn Jennings of Bromfield is # 1 at 10:10.5 in 1978, and Peabody's Leslie Welch is officially at # 2 with a time of 10:19.3 in 1981

East Coast Classic
On-Site Coverage
Ralph's Recap: East Coast Classic
On the way to this meet, when I was forced to trade in my family’s second car to fill up the gas tank of my truck—my main transportation to and from track meets--it occurred to me that the rising price of gas ($3.95 on February 22, 2013 at the Kangaroo Express on Moody Blvd. in Bunnell) and the declining mile record (3:43.13 on July 7, 1999 by Morocco’s Hicham El Guerrous in Rome’s Olympic Stadium) are definitely going in opposite directions. At the current rate, it won’t be long before we’ll all be forced to stay at home and be “Virtual Track” fans. Fortunately, Jason Byrne’s got that covered. (And he’s been improving on it for years.)
