Florida Athletes Write History at FSU Relays

Florida athletes wrote history this weekend at the 2019 FSU Relays. From school records, county records, meet records, to even state records it was a busy two days at the Mike Long track. Here are a few of the highlights from the weekend. 

Rebecca Clark Runs Florida No. 3 All-Time 3200m, Mary Ellen Eudaly Runs National Freshman Leading 3200m 

The girls 3200m final on Friday was one to watch. Not only did 12 ladies break the 11-minute barrier, but their times were some of the fastest the state has ever seen.

Lake Mary Boys Race Epic 4x100m To Break FSU Relays Meet Record 

The Lake Mary boys 4x100m relay team brought the heat this weekend with the top Florida time of the weekend and a new meet record of 41.44 to edge out Dunbar high school at the line by a tenth of a second. 

This new mark for the Lake Mary boys is a Florida No. 3 time and the 4A classification leading time with West Orange right behind in a 41.50. 

Lincoln HS Girls Break 4x400m Meet Record, School Record, and County Record with 3:48.36 Win

The Lincoln HS girls edged out Godby HS in the final section of the girls 4x400m for a new meet record, school record, and county record of 3:48.36. 

This time puts Lincoln within striking distance for a state title come may. It will take a two second improvement to put pressure on Northeast HS, but these ladies proved that they are on a mission to gain that state title in a few weeks. 

Jacious Sears Wins 200m on Friday, Comes Back to Win 100m on Saturday

Coming off a fabulous performance at New Balance Indoor Nationals and a win in the 100m at Bob Hayes, Jacious Sears brought the heat again to FSU Relays by winning the 200m in a time of 24.32 to edge out Shaniya Benjamin of Alonso. Sears wasn't finished with her 200m win and on Saturday she came back to win the 100m in a time of 11.84. 

Sears is your 4A leader in both events after her performances at Sam Burley back in early March. Her consistency has been very impressive this season and she will be a tough competitor to beat at the state finals. 

Jacob Lemmon Breaks His own Discus FSU Meet Record With 59.54m Throw

Jacob Lemmon does it again! Lemmon had another rocking week at FSU Relays, breaking his own Discus meet record to throw a 59.54m (195-04). Lemmon has been your national leader since his 61.75m throw at the Wolfpack Invitational. 

To say Lemmon has been on fire this season, is an understatement. His current undefeated season in both the discus and shot put has been one to watch with all of his discus throws above the 59.00m mark and shot throws over 17.00m. 

Leon Sophomore, Curtis Williams, Produces Life-Time Best Long Jump to Break Meet Record

Earlier this season we said Curtis Williams would be a sophomore to watch, and let's just say his FSU performance proved that he is going after his goals this season. 

The Leon sophomore jumped a new meet record of 7.31m to edge out Jalen Chance of Bishop Snyder who jumped a 7.16m. 

Williams is your current national leader with his jump at FSU and looks to be your front runner for the 3A state title come May. 

Hugh Brittenham had two very strong wins this weekend in both the 800m and 1600m. The future gator ran a 1:54.13 to edge out Ponte Vedra's Kyle Reinheimer on Friday in the 800m and doubled back on Saturday to have negative splits in the 1600m to run a 4:14.81. 

Up next we will see Brittenham race on his future home track at Florida Relays this weekend. 

Tsion Yared Leads Handful to sub 5 Minute 1600m Finishes After Sub 10:30 3200m on Friday

Tsion Yared had a very strong and consistent weekend setting a new PR in the 3200m of 10:35.73 and just missing her 1600m PR by running a 4:52.26. 

Yared led a very strong race in the 1600m, taking the lead after lap one with Rylee Pustilnik, Alyssa Hendrix, Alyson Churchill, Emily Culley, Caitlin Wilkey, and Rebecca Clark following behind. 

As these ladies ran a very strong and consistent pace, seven girls ended up breaking the five-minute barrier in the warm Saturday weather. 

Alicia Ruiz, Sierra Oliveira Battle To 2:13 800m Finishes

Don't sleep on Alicia Ruiz this season. Ruiz came off a very strong triple at the Polk County Championships where she won the 400m, 800m, and 1600m all within a short time frame. Ruiz came back this week to win the 800m in a time of 2:13.67 with Evangelical junior, Sierra Oliveira right behind in a 2:13.90. 

Ruiz came back the next day to run a leg in the 4x800m and a 5:06.98 mile. 

Oliveira should also be on your radar this season. Her 2:13.90 was a new 800m PR and she also ran a leg on the 4x400m team for Evangelical that went 3:55.98 to place third overall.
