FHSAA 1A State Meet Boys Recap

FHSAA 1A Boys 100m Dash
Kevin Levy (Cardinal Newman) 10.66

The boys 100 meter dash set up to be a very curious and interesting race as the defending state champion in Jacob Panzarella of First Baptist Academy had to run in the slow heat despite winning his regional meet as rough headwind conditions cost him a fast enough time to be placed in the fast section with the other top contenders.

He threw down a 10.70 in the first section of two to make the next section have to roll without him.

D'Angelo Ponds, a junior at Chaminade-Madonna, came in as the top qualifier from regionals as the 1A Region 4 champion at 10.65. Ponds posted a nearly identical time at 10.67, but the regional runner-up to him in Cardinal Newman sophomore Kevin Levy caught him at the line for the state title in a PR time of 10.66. Panzarella's time ended up putting him third overall without racing head to head against the top seeds.
