Eleven Floridians headed to the Pacific Northwest to test their skills against the top runners in the country at the 2014 Brooks PR Invitational. After soaking in all Seattle had to offer Thursday and Friday and mingling with other athletes it was down to business when they took to the track on Saturday. After winning the Dream 100 in New York City a week prior, East Ridge's Kaylin Whitney continued to tear up her competition. 

Jones senior and University of Miami freshman was dominant in the hurdles sweeping both the 100 and 300m events. Monte Seabrook of Newberry equaled that feat winning the boys 110 and 300m hurdles. Pasco sophomore Alfreda Steele picked up a very impressive win in the 100m ahead of Lake Highland's Deanna Hill, but HIll came back to edge Steele in the 200. North Marion sophomore Vincent Vaughns swept both sprints on the boys side.

The 2014 Florida Relays saw more fireworks as day number two got underway. Fresh off a trip to Austin, Texas last weekend for the Texas Realys, the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders were back in action setting a new meet record, state leading and US#5 time of 12:05.90 in the distance medley. The ladies weren't done as they set the meet record and re-wrote their own national record in the 4x200m relay with a sizzling 1:33.41 .

The 2014 track and field season is looming with several preseason meets this weekend and the start of the regular season right around the corner. Over the coming days we will take a look at the top ten returners in each event by class. On the girls side, Deanna Hill looks to pick up where she left off in 2013 after winning the 100 meter crown. Deja Parrish has been a mainstay in the 400 meters, can anyone take her down? Daesha Rogers has owned the 800 and 1600 meters since she was a sixth grader, will 2014 be any different?

Stefani Kerrison isn't a big talker. Even when I asked her some questions for this story, short responses were all I had to work with. The Jones senior lets her performances on the track do the talking for her. As a junior, she won the state championship in the 100 meter hurdles; her first year doing the event. She set a personal best of 13.86, but improved that mark in postseason competition, running a state leading time of 13.56 at the USATF National Junior Olympics. The success has paid off in terms of a college scholarship. Kerrison initially thought she would be headed to Clemson, but after a trip to in-state schools Florida State and the University of Miami she had a change of heart.

Everyone loves a good battle in the hurdles and 2014 is shaping up to be another one in the girls 100 meter hurdles. Jones senior Stefani Kerrison finished first at last year's 2A state championship just ahead of Rockledge's Danielle Phillips. The two come in with the number one and number three fastest times of the season. Only Kerrison and Boyd Anderson's Daeshon Gordon who recently committed to LSU along with Phillips, have broken 14 seconds. On the boys side, Jonathan Hayden's 14.24 leads the way, but it's only one one-hundredth faster than rival John Battle IV of Hallandale. The two duked it out in 3A Region 4 and then again at the state meet. The South Florida hurdle talent is definitely strong again in 2014.

We've seen Florida sprinters at the state level, the national level, but our friends at NSSF take a look at perspective runners for the IAAF World Junior Championships and a slew hail from the Sunshine state. The list includes high school athletes as well as current college freshman. See the top ten athletes in each event that have met the qualifiying standards for the meet which will take place at the end of July at historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.

Columbus freshman Amir Rasul set a huge new personal best 21.09 in the 200 finals on Saturday to break the meet record that has stood since 1995.

Well everyone, I’m back with the last AAU Club Championship recap. This whole entire week has been so hectic, with all the athletes that were running and the rain delays, but it’s all over now.

Jones class of 2014 standout Stefani Kerrison has had a busy summer. After claiming the 2A state title in the 100 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.86 and second in the 300 hurdles she didn't stop competing and training.
