Mantecons' 14:35.25-Fastest All-Time XC 5K by a Florida Boy

Belen Jesuit Preparatory junior Marcelo Mantecon etched his way into the Florida elite distance runners' record book with his 14:25.25 win at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, AL, last Saturday. His time was the fastest all-time by a Florida high school boy in a XC 5K. His time eclipsed the time of one of his teammates from 2024, Joshua Ruiz, who had run 14:38.79 in winning the 2023 Southern Showcase.       WATCH:  CHAMPIONSHIP BOYS RACE AT THE SOUTHERN SHOWCASE

The argument could be made that Mantecon is the best Florida scholastic distance runner of all-time. Not only does the junior now have the fastest all-time XC 5K, he also sits at the top of the Florida Junior, Sophomore, Freshman and 8th Grade All-Time XC 5K rankings.
