The sophomore boys may not have dominated the podium at the 2026 FHSAA Outdoor State Finals, but the Class of 2028 still produced several breakthrough performances on Florida's biggest stage.
Of the 60 boys state titles contested in Jacksonville, sophomores captured three championships across three classifications, with winners in Class 1A, 3A, and 4A.
Flanagan's Alijah McKenzie delivered the top sophomore performance on the track, winning the 4A 400mH title in 52.41.
In the field events, Hillsborough sophomore Derrell Hines won the 3A long jump title with a leap of 7.60 meters (+1.4).
1A also saw a sophomore rise to the top as Bishop Snyder's Daniel Hoff captured a state championship with a mark of 47.65 meters. Hoff's victory gave the sophomore class its lone 1A boys title.
