Watch Bailey Hertenstein complete one of the most epic comebacks in state history. With 450 meters to go in the girls 4A 1,600, the Riverview sophomore gets tripped up and tumbles to the track. With no fear she gets back up and rallies from 8th place to first for the first title of her track and field career! (Race video courtesy of Anthony Bolton)
The Winter Park girls not only clocked the fastest 4x800m relay time of the weekend, but set a new school record and state leading mark of 9:13.69. We combined the results from all four classifications to see who had the top 50 performances in EVERY event!
American High School freshman Tyrese Cooper nearly pulled out the sprint trifecta at the 2016 FHSAA T&F Finals. Cooper was edged out at the line in the 100 by one one-hundredth of a second (10.68), but bounced back to win the 200 (20.87), and 400 (46.34) all into negative winds, the fastest of any classification. We merged the results for every class to find out the top 50 performances in EVERY event!
Some of the smallest schools made some of the biggest waves at the 2016 FHSAA state track meet at IMG Academy over the weekend. The Admiral Farragut boys and Oak Hall girls took home team titles. Farragut boys, after the girls team won the 2015 state meet, made it their first team title in the school's 85-year history. Much of that can be attributed to the exploits of sprinter Alex Gray.
If there was a highlight to the Class 2A state track meet at IMG Academy in Bradenton, its name was Caitlyn Collier. Collier pulled off one of the most difficult feats possible in high school state track, a sweep of the 800m, 1600m and the 3200m. It puts Collier, still just a sophomore, in an elite class of state performers and into the FHSAA state record book.
The freshman from American High School won the 200m and 400m
Nothing has been able to stop the Miami Northwestern Bulls, not for the last eight years. The Bulls made it their eighth straight and their 13th overall championship over the weekend at IMG Academy in Bradenton. It was not even close. The Bulls amassed 157 points over Friday and Saturday. Runner up Northeast came in at 43.50. The Bulls don't just do it with a handful of athletes.
Once in a long while and individual's performance transcends any combined team efforts.
