2024 FHSAA 1A Boys And Girls State Meet Preview

Girls Team Race

In the virtual meet based solely upon Regional times, Maclay wins the 1 A Girls Team Title.  That is based upon Maclay So. Caroline Couch winning the 3200 and placing 2nd in the 1600 and Jr. Elizabeth Dowdy winning the Pole Vault.  A lot can happen at the State meet and don't rule out the Admiral Farragut Academy girls based upon the strength of their relays and the hope of Fr. Lauryn Burgess who is the favorite to win the 400mH.  The other team with a real shot at winning the title is Evangelical Christian.  They missed out last year when one of the nation's best sprinters, McKenzie Travis was out with an injury.  Travis is back this year and is the favorite to win the 100, 200 and 400m races where she is the 1A 31 ranked girl with times of 11.43, 23.82 and 56.27.

RELAYS

4x800

Oak Hall and the Master's Academy come to State with 1A State Rankings of #2 and 3.  The Oak Hall girls have gone 9:40.39 this season and the Master's Academy girls have gone 9:45.25.  It should be those two atop the podium in 1st and 2nd.  Expect the girls from Admiral Farragut Academy to be in the mix as well.  Farragut has gone 9:47.29.

4x100
So much depends on the exchanges in the 4x100m Relay.  Three teams come in with times under 49.00.  Holy Trinity has run 47.94.  American Heritage went 49.05  at Regionals, but has run 48.63.  Canterbury won their Regional in 48.71.  It should be a good one.

4x400
Two teams come out of Regionals and they are the two teams to watch.  Pahokee ran 3:56.04 and Admiral Farragut ran 3:57.04.  In the 1A State rankings, they are flip-flopped with Farragut having run a 3:54.39 and Pahokee 3:56.04.  If the Farragut girls show up, they should take the title to close out the Championship.  They are the only two teams under 4:00.
