Two sets of brothers, the Galloway's from Trinity Prep and the McKenzie's from Seffner Christian account for four of the top five freshmen in the state for 2016. Kayamo Galloway owns the fastest mark of the group with his 17:04.22 from the Ted Benz Invitational while Mamush boasts a SB of 17:15.20. Liam Quintana breaks up the group in third with his 17:37.36 with Paul McKenzie (pictured above) and brother John behind them with times of 17:38.99 and 17:42.24 respectively. Brothers Kayamo and Mamush Galloway are the top two incoming freshmen in the state on 2A's top ranked team, Trinity Prep. Kayamo was third for the Saints at the 2015 FHSAA Cross Country Finals while brother Mamush was 68th in the field of 183 runners. The duo are the only two runners to boast personal bests under 17 minutes with times of 16:02.66 and 16:38.70 respectively. Check out the top freshman heading into the 2016 cross country season.
Seffner Christian Academy has hosted the Crusader Gallop 5K over the past four years as a fundraiser for the school's athletic department. Saturday, the event switched from Sydney Dover Trails to Holloway Park, one of the hardest courses in the state of Florida. SCA Coach Andy Holmes says the event which was open to all ages was the largest ever with over 230 runners, nearly 70 more than in the past three.
Watch Seffner Christian Academy senior Noah Perkins run a phenomenal final 800 meters to win the 3,200m at FSU Relays in a 15 second PR, state leader, and US#10 time of 9:08.54.

This year's Crusader Gallop 5k was once again held at Sydney Dover Trails. Always known as a tough course this year was no different. This year there were even more challenges to the course. There have been wild boar tear up a good bit of the starting field so runners had to maneuver through a narrow start. Runners this year had to navigate up a 150 meter long hill, once at the start and again just before the 2 mile mark. The back part of the course a 1k loop proved most difficult. After heavy rains most of the day Friday there were many parts of that section under water or just down right muddy. The course is hill, sandy in parts and uneven.
It was a great 2012-2013 in both cross country and track across the Sunshine state. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.
Seffner Christian senior Josh Keenan and Dr. Phillips senior Amber Johnson are this week's Warrior of the Week winners. Keenan scored his second win of the season taking home the Bay Conference title in a new personal best time of 16:02. Johnson also set a personal best of 18:32.90 en route to a Metro West Conference championship and her second win in as many weeks.
Led by senior Josh Keenan’s individual victory, Seffner Christian’s boys cross country squad successfully defended it’s Bay Conference Championships crown at Thursday’s meet held at Crescent Lake Park in St. Petersburg.
